this is the harrowing journey of a sugar addicted fatkid venturing into uncharted territories where vegetables, calories and exercise are common.

my body hates me!

so, i jacked up my back and am now being treated for the muscle pain in hopes that in two-three weeks it goes away and it’s not a herniated disc. oh, and now i have mild scoliosis. who am i? who knows. i tried doing some fitness yesterday by doing yoga and was crippled. my physical therapy session this morning ruined me. luckily i have muscle relaxers and painkillers.

oh and i may be able to track down who ted is. ted in reality is a swollen lymph node that i have had for three months almost. that if you know anything about health is not healthy. in combination with my low white blood counts & neutropenia could be very bad. we shall see.

in hopes to feel better, my doctor is forcing me on a plant-based diet. no meat, no dairy, no good times. luckily i can start monday, because he’s giving me a few days to love my life. goodbye my favorite foods. my doctor also totally believes that having a plant based diet will stop cancer growth (he’s worried and hoping the lymph node is no big deal)

so i suffer from severe migraines that i have to cure with numerous painkillers (i can go through a whole prescription of tramadol plus extra strength tylenol to help manage the pain.) on average my migraines last about two weeks.
rather than popping painkillers this time around (i started getting raging headaches about four days ago) i am doing a juice cleanse. cleaning out the bad and bringing in the good.
this is a juicery located in Los Angeles. They’re amazing. The 3 day cleanse is over 200 dollars online if you want it shipped to your house every morning but if you go and pick them up you can get 21 juices (3 more than you get in their cleanse) for only 140 bucks! And you also get to visit a lovely new neighborhood!
I’m hoping I can lay down a foundation for myself and this will cure my migraines a healthier way than devouring a bottle of painkillers or going to the ER for the michael jackson treatment (last time I had a migraine for over a month I went in and they gave me propofol).
if it doesn’t cure my migraines, then at least i’ll be feeling great health-wise after three days.

holy smokes, i remember a few weeks ago where i was so amped on healthy living and working 50-60plus hours a week…fast forward and i can barely get enough sleep to make my workday manageable.
by 6pm on days where i don’t work my part-time job i’m so done that i just go home and vegetate. i was getting used to 6am workouts but haven’t done that in a while. i work out 3 days a week if that.
my body can’t get enough sleep. i sleep 5-8 hours a day and my body is done. i feel like my healthy lifestyle has taken a big kick in the ass. bummer.
feeling rundown is insane. i will catch up on sleep one day!

veggie grill’s vegan crab cake sandwich. so as a carnivore, i know what a crab cake tastes like and i never liked them. i don’t know why i thought i’d fall head over heels over this one but it was alright. btw, veggie grill is my favorite restaurant period. i don’t care that they only serve vegan food, nor does my roommate (who’s a very meat & potatoes kind of guy). this is the only thing i’ve ever had at this place where i just was not happy.
i have been sticking to a mainly vegetarian/vegan diet for a few weeks. luckily i live in Los Angeles, and can find a vegan restaurant in my backyard and in every direction i walk. not surprisingly my complexion is better and i lost some weight. i’m hoping sticking to a 75% plant based diet i’ll be able to increase my energy because from here on out i also have a part-time job where i work 10-20 hours weekly. i work out from 6-7:30am, work full-time 8-5, then most nights i’m scheduled to work at my part time job till 6-10/11 pm nightly.
what’s a good healthy way to get a extra kick in the pants after a long day?

it doesn’t suck to be me!

so we have finally discovered why i am always sick…my doctors missed it a month and a half ago. luckily i went elsewhere for another opinion and they caught it immediately.

i have neutropenia. sounds worse than it is. it’s an auto-immune disorder where my white blood counts are too low to fight off infection so i have to be very careful around people who are sick.

apparently it’s not that difficult to live with neutropenia. i just have to wash my hands a lot, stay away from crowds of people, make sure EVERYTHING is clean, eat clean and organic foods, and just be careful. i have to be extremely vigilant around people and at home.

it’s a relief to find out why i have been sick for over two years straight!

so since monitoring my weight/food/exercise/life in general i have managed to lose 9 lbs in like 3 weeks. in one week i lost inches from my neck/waist and hips! what the hell! the shitty thing about me is that since i’m tall and lean already, i gain fast and lose fast but never just stay put. i do average about a size 4-6 so i ain’t complaining. on my skinnier side i can go down to a size 0-2 (i look disgusting) and at my heaviest i am a size 8 (which was like a few years ago yet still isn’t that heavy). i hate my doctor for telling me to lose weight, but i’m happy that he motivated me to finally kick my lazy ass into gear.
i managed to work out 6 days in the past week! my body is so incredibly sore and i’m high-fiving myself as i cringe for kicking ass and taking names (or in this case the pounds). i don’t feel like i lost weight but somehow i did. i felt like i tightened up everywhere which is exactly what i want. i finished the week off with a hour of power yoga that has me slowly walking from point a and b with my hands tightly to my side. cannot move. i worked out running a few miles a day and some weights all week yet yoga is what has me the sorest-just goes to show that using your own body to condition is the best tool!
today is a rest day. i love these days especially when the Voice is on and I get to stare at blake shelton be a hunk of burning love on my tv.

so i put my foot down this week and i decided i’m going to get 8 hours of sleep EVERY NIGHT (rest is key in order to try to maintain some sort of health). I’m going to wake up at 6am every morning in order to exercise which is another key part of maintaining health.
so far since i made this declaration i’ve followed it 3 for 3! i feel so much better when i go to the gym in the morning. yes, it’s a hassle to get my ass out of bed, but when you’re finally doing what it is you do at the gym at the butt crack of dawn you don’t feel too bad.
it also helps my roommate is gone this week. i can re-focus on my life. he really derails me because his hours are different than mine. i’m a pushover so i kind of bend to his timeline and that stops here. i will have to put my foot down and tell him no.
what surprises me is that i was diagnosed with strep throat a few days ago and i have still maintained this regiment! i’m on killer antibiotics for a week but it’s no big thang because i’m convincing myself strep is no biggie. minus the fact my throat scratches like a mofo and swallowing is a bitch. also i lose my voice when i talk for more than a few hours a day. #winning! my doctor now is so used to seeing me that he laughs it off. my low white blood count leading to a ruined immune system is all to blame as well as my vitamin deficiency (i’m a lazy multi-vitaminer! shame on me!)

hello new edition to the galt-yoon household!
i swore that i never wanted a scale in the house but with recent doctor visits (i have seen a second and third doctor at the medical group i go to with my blood tests and generally same response. they say i’m “skinny fat”). plus i think this will help me keep track of mikey’s weight in hopes that he doesn’t lose weight! we don’t need two beanpoles in this house!
this is the eat smart precision scale. only 30 dollars on amazon! with over 5,000 high reviews i think this is the best bang for your buck and it’s simple. none of that ridiculous body fat, water percentages, and etc. that come with other digital scales. just your run of the mill scale that does what it’s supposed to do and does it accurately!

that right there is my look of disappointment for a near-miss A+++ blood test/doctor visit. High cholesterol and low white blood counts (thankfully not anything to drastic minus the fact my immune system is weak and explains why i’m constantly sick…i have no safe guards against every damn thing!)
my diet is now: low-fat. low-sodium. low-cholesterol. low-meat. no-sugar. no-caffeine. high-potassium (since i pee out everything with my diuretics for blood pressure). #winning.
my doctor left a voicemail that was hilarious. he repeated i had to lose weight, three separate times, three different ways. great dude, i get the point minus the fact i am a size 2 to 4. according to my very LA doctor, i still have room to lose weight. ok dude. got it. i’m 5’9” and a beanstalk…now i’m going to be 5’9” and a freak.

today i had a follow-up and my blood pressure is normal! yes, i had to take pills to enable this but i also ensured my sodium was below what it should be! i also lost a few pounds in the past month so today was a good day! finally, some good news from the doctor (haven’t had that in a long long while!)
now i have to sit and wait for blood test results and urine results. finding out if my kidneys are functioning as they should and if there’s something in my blood that will give us a hint as to why i have hypertension at the age of 30! (the doctor told me my body as it is right now is at the age of 55-60…they had trouble finding veins!) womp womp!
i’m going to sit and soak in the joy of having normal blood pressure for a day or two till i get the call about my results!
